I hear this a lot from women.

Just got this message in my POF box. Would any woman be offended by this?

Mod cut: Image deleted (contained OLD username and photo). The message said she liked this OP's photo but asked "Why no smile?

What you're describing is totally different from a guy catcalling a woman to smile when passing her on the street.

In online dating, you SHOULD have photos of yourself smiling because 1) it's typically the most flattering expression, and 2) it reveals a LOT about a person.

I would not be offended by the message you got. I want to know if a guy I am interested in has bad teeth, which are a HUGE turnoff.

Personally, I would be offended if I was told to smile, in any capacity. I should be able to determine my own damn emotions.

How I Feel When Men Tell Me to Smile

I've had women do this to me too.

I remember I was in a bar one time and was just walking around. I didn't really feel anything either way. This random woman that I never interacted with or saw before ran up to me and told me that I should stop being angry and ruining everyone else's time.

Very strange. Still don't know what to make of that.

Yes, this is my thought too.

It also offends me that it seems to be okay for women to be offended by this, but not men.

Personally, I would be p&%$#d off if a stranger told me that. I'd show that woman that The Lady of Rage isn't the only person from Virginia who will go crazy if someone tried to check me like that.

That bird from that picture looks quite nice from what I can tell ( bad picture ) so that should be as good as any encouragement to cheer up a bit mate and smile

Honestly I know it implies that you're miserable but when more than one person tells you this then..........
