he probably started to try meditation, one time, decided he wasnt getting anywhere after a few minutes, declared it stupid in his tiny little mind, and moved onto another drug.

It works for anyone who does it correctly.
Going to sessions is not how you achieve it. You can practice at home or anywhere you like.
Meditation is free once you learn how to master it.
It takes a lot of exploring to find which method works. It can take up to a full year of daily attempts to finally master it. Once you do it's like riding a bike...you never lose the ability to achieve it.
