Yes. There really is no excuse to not communicate.

1,728 miles! And that was 40 years ago when long distance telephone service was still govt-regulated, I lived in the college dorm and he was back at home in our hometown, having already graduated from another university. Most of our communications were cards and letters, he sent flowers a few times,a and came out to visit twice.

We'll be married 40 years this winter.

For about 6 months, I worked in Washington DC, Monday to Friday and lived with my girl friend in Boston, Friday to Monday. Another time (same girl friend) I worked in OH for about 6 months, Monday to Friday, and lived with her in Boston Friday to Monday. I flew place to place with my company paying for it. This was before cell phones and Internet so communication was not that easy. It worked out, as we later married. After marriage, we did the weekend thing from Chicago to Columbus OH for about 4 months prior to us relocating to Chicago.

My exH and I were 5,000 miles apart for about 2 years. Phone calls were expensive and it was pre Internet. We wrote letter after letter. We ultimately stayed together for 25 years.

1278 miles, back in 2007. Vancouver, Canada (me) to Los Angeles, California (him). It fizzled out after about 8 months and 4 or 5 visits.

I'm in Jersey and one relationship was 600 miles away in Dayton, Ohio. Every few weeks, I'd travel to see her (drive out Thursday night, get there Friday morning - be with her 'til Sunday night, get home Monday morning, shower and go to work). Obviously, Monday I was wiped, after driving all night. This lasted only a few months.
After that relationship ended, I met another woman, also from Ohio (Akron). I went to see her only twice, but we spoke every day on the phone, and online. After about a year, she came to live with me. Two years later, we were married. Unfortunately, the marriage ended after nearly five years and she went back to Ohio.

About a year and a half after this, I got involved with a woman who lived three hours away (Upstate New York); that only lasted about a month. No more LDRs for me! If more than one hour, I'm not getting involved.

30 miles? That's nothing! I lived in Alaska, she lived in Sweden. Like 7000 miles. After 18 months got married and are both in Alaska now. All it took was a little trust and a good job so I could afford the airfare to visit each other before we got married!
