"Wow!" followed by a "Hi" was the first words that came out of my mouth when I met my future ex spouse as she walked by me. And "bye, take care" was the last words when she left.
Heck if I remember... I replied to an online ad in 2000, probably "hi" or "hello" for written words. Same for on the phone and in person.
More interestingly, when I gave her an engagement ring, I said "Fine, here's your damn ring" after sitting on it for about a month and failing to come up with anything suitable (as a reply to "where's my damn ring already!"). It's been 17 years together, guess we're a match.
This thread prompted me to look up the first conversation with the man I am now with, and may marry in a few years.
He messaged me on Fetlife: "A fellow fan of The Maxx and Zim? Sold! How about the Venture Bros or the original animation series of The Tick? Sounds like we have similar senses of humor. Have fun on FL and let's meet at an event some time! Oh, and be careful of those moose bites, too! -grin- (Northern Exposure fan?)"
(The "moose bites" thing on my profile was a Monty Python reference, though.)
I responded with a live video of the musician, Voltaire, telling a story about his ongoing conflict with Doc Hammer, one of the creators of the Venture Brothers cartoon, and the message, "Venture Bros lol... I was there the night this happened. Check it out. I'm going to game night at Voodoo tonight!" (Voodoo is a local club.)
So we began our acquaintance nerding out over cartoons. What followed was a lengthy discussion, laced with heavy duty innuendo, of various animation, Comic Cons, Hitchhiker's Guide, and eventually Buddhist philosophy.
I said glad to finally get to meet you! We met on an online dating site and talked on ICQ and myspace and it took me 6 months to get her to agree to meet. We're both glad she finally agreed.
I think it was something like, "Hey, how's it going?"
And her reply was "...Good."
We met at a dog park and my dog started playing with hers so I decided to go talk to the shy owner who sat quietly on the bench towards the back of the park.
It was not my first word but on 2nd day of the meet I said. I am gonna need to take a photo of your ID. LOL. His reply is go ahead I've nothing to hide.
I did it coz he was gonna fix my niece's broken xbox and well, what if he ghosted me. LOL.
