Pretty simple poll - also, what's the maximum time a person should wait?

If you dated your spouse on and off before marrying him / her, then include only the time leading up to the marriage.

3 years and 11 months.. we were shooting for a Friday the 13th wedding. It was definitely long enough. We were young, but knew after about 6 1/2 months. For the record, it's been almost 21 years of marriage and still going strong!

We met at my 10th high school reunion in Aug.1982 - married Aug. 1983. Still going strong.

Then there's my 24 yr old son. Started dating a girl at the start of their Jr year in high school. Dated each other exclusively for 6+ years, got married Oct '07. In less then a year, she had an affair. Now he's single again.

We were together for 6 years before we got married.

Engaged: September 16, 1990.

I don't believe in rash decisions when it comes to affairs of the heart. But sometimes you just know.

Only the time we were together leading up to marriage: 2 years. We'd known each other for 6 years, been together for a total of 3 years so 1 year together, 3 years apart, 2 years back together and then married. This year is our 3rd wedding anniversary.

I think the max a person should wait really depends on the person/couple. My cousin was with his wife for 7 years before they even got engaged. To my knowledge, she didn't have a major problem with it and patiently waited as long as it took - of course they did start dating in high school. They have now been married for about 6-7 years and have 2 kids.
