I've been trying to figure out what 'DH' stands for. I think it's some equivalent to spouse or something...

SO = Significant other, I figured that out quite quickly

You yanks seem to like your acronyms, lol.

A few I didn't get until recently...

TLC = Tender loving care, apparently

BFF = Best friends forever, um, okay lol

Are there any 'obvious' ones you don't get or only got recently?

Default Americans and Acronyms

DH is Dear Husband think it stand for other stuff as well.

Hey...not all of us understand "acronyms"...this senior doesn't get a lot of them, but I am learning. The young folks started all this with their computer chatting, cell phones, etc. and we simply caught on.

If you go on Dr. Phil's website, he has a whole list of "acronyms" that kids are using now. He did this because of all the bad stuff that happens to kids via the computer. Check it out.

That is such a male thing. I was asking PTC a day or so ago the same question. All I could come up with were sports references!

Oh, yeah, there are tons of funny abbreviations out there. BTW (that's by the way), an acronym is an abbreviation that is pronounced like a word, such as UNICEF. If you say each of the letters individually, that's just an abbreviation ... or an initialism, if you want to be pedantic.

The one I see a lot on this board is ETA, and I know it doesn't mean estimated time of arrival. Would somebody help me out?

I don't think it's a pervasive american thing - I had no idea what that (DH) meant when I first came on this forum.
