....is the best way to describe it.I received a call earlier from someone I communicated with online a few months back. He has a beautiful voice, extremely intelligent and articulate but he does the "uh" thing quite a bit. I swear the conversation lasted 20% longer because of it. It's distracting.

I hear people do that all the time and it drives me up the friggin' wall! If I am at a loss for words while speaking, I simply do not say anything at all. I formulate what I'm going to say, then I say it.
One thing I focus on is eliminating "uh", "like", and "you know" from my dictionary when I speak. It just gets in the way of what you're trying to say!!

This just made me think of how I handle it.
I watched the Titanic for the first time and saw myself when Rose was explaining how Jack saved her from falling off the boat. She said she was leaning over the edge to look at the propellers but couldn't remember what they were called. So she spun her index finger around, making the motion of the propeller while also nodding her head back and forth. I almost choked. Were they peeking in my window? Silly enough without the sound effects of uh, ahhhh, uhhhhhh.
The uhs are bad, but I find the cadence of Obama's speech the most annoying.
