Well I guess that would depend on what each of you expect in that department of the relationship. If you discuss it and decide it is not an important aspect to you both then yes a relationship can be strong without sex, but if it is important to one of you and not appealing to the other then you may have a problem.

A couple should get to know each other really well for a period of time before they engage in getting to know each other sexually. Intimacy is very important in a relationship AFTER the relationship has been established and there is trust and friendship between the two people. Since sex is the most intimate two people can really get with each other it can be very important after a while. It just should not be so important in the beginning of dating.
