I just terminated a long term friendship and in retrospect, this friend displayed some of the characteristics of a narcissist. I wonder if I just swept the red flags under the rug and did not realize what I was truly dealing with.

You were sweeping.

I guess I should elaborate - yes, I was in a relationship with someone with NPD. I swept all the red flags away - it's human nature.

I've since learned to see things for face value, and will not rationalize anyone's poor behavior.

Thanks. I suppose I ignored some of the signs because we did not see each other very often, but now that the friendship is over, I'm recalling some things that stuck in my mind that nagged at me a bit now and then.

Default I recently

posted about a former friend I had and i could not decide if he was narcissistic or not. It was tough to know because there are "know it alls" who are rich and entitled who tell people "the truth" which can hurt but it was hard to know if he was narcissistic or just a personality style of being a know it all

Narcissists can be blatant, but they can cover there tracks just like a sociopath, it's all about posturing and appearences with them.

I googled the subject on this type of personality disorder and my now ex-friend seems to fit the description in at least in 8 out of 10 of the commonly mentioned traits. She is not rich and privileged, but is obsessed with money matters, plastic surgery and doing things her way. I have never lost my temper with her, but this blow up came when she called me and asked me to commit to an evening out in mid March. When I attempted to tell her that it was too far down the road and I would rather wait and see, she went ballistic and threw out names and accusations. I was startled because I have never reacted that way with her or any friend for that matter, especially for such a silly reason and felt that she crossed the line.

My BF just got divorced from a narcissist, he was a textbook case, and bipolar to boot!
