Today I was considering leaving work at 5:30 or so to head up to JC Penney to look at a couch my wife saw last night. I've been on her to get a new couch and wanted to get it by yesterday. However, in order to go to that Penney's I needed to drive up 35W through Minneapolis. However I changed my mind and decided to stay at work longer and then felt like going a different route and not go to see the couch.

By God's ultimate grace I was not near the 35W bridge when it collapsed this evening. Minneapolis is in shock. All hospitals are on alert and police from every suburb have been called to our downtown area. Please pray for all the people whose cars fell into the river. All the families who cannot get in touch with their loved ones.

Thank God, Hoosier! I cannot believe the pictures! I hate to think that it was foolishness on the part of the construction crew.

I had someone speed pass me and cut me off once only to be the one side-swiped by a red light runner. If he didn't cut me off, it would have been me. Of course, we aren't happy that others were there, but thankful that we were spared.

Yes, God has spared my life twice. I will pray for the victims of this tragedy.

Hoosier_guy, I'm glad to hear you're safe. I saw the bridge collapse on the evening news. Very sad news footage, showing layers and layers of wreckage.

The construction was only cosmetics. It's been in the upper 90s and super humid here so my wife believes that may have played into it...buckling of the road. I have co-workers that travel that road so I am really praying they're okay. From what I've heard there are not fatalities as of yet. There was a school bus filled with 60 kids that went down too. I believe all the kids are okay, about 10 or so are reported as at the hospital now. I don't know that anything like this has ever occurred in Minneapolis before. Everyone is in just a state of shock and disbelief.

And of course we're under severe thunderstorms and lightning now too.

Glad you are safe, Hoos, I thought about you and wondered if anyone else from here was in the area. Very tragic to watch this unfold..I pray for the families of the ones who did not survuve, and for the healing of body and mind of the ones who did survive. I believe the death count at this hour is three.

I'm glad to hear you're alive and well Hoosier! That is frightening!

I will be praying for comfort for those that lost someone, and will be praying for the survivors to be healed and comforted as well. Truly sad!
I really always HATE it when they say that there's no reason to suspect terrorism...that always makes me think it IS!

Praise God you are safe!! I believe my life has been spared many times, some I am aware of and others I'm sure I don't even know about. My husbands life was sure spared last week when we thought he had a stroke.

yes the reports are coming in and we did see on the news on person in a body bag. It's all just so horrible...and even much more so when you travel that route. We've had family frantically trying to get through to us...we of course don't realize how tied up all the phone lines are.
