mahalo.
i have a very loose understanding about the pre-adamic world-view.
originally i was told the term originated with the southern slave owners. as it goes, from time to time some of the slave owners would question the act of human slavery. in response, the brotherhood and/or southern ministers would instruct the ambivalent owners that ownership of the slaves was not wrong because these people were before Adam and of course Adam was the first man so anything before Adam wasn't human. after hearing this explanation i thought the term was limited to the southern U.S.A.
i was surprised and oddly pleased when recently i found out the R.C.C. acknowledges the history of pre-adamites. CNS STORY: God made pre-humans into people, Vatican newspaper says
the Pope says God created the pre-adamites and God upgraded them.
the foremost point for me was taken from the release was that the Pope acknowledges there was such a thing as a pre-adamite.
knowing now that the Vatican acknowledges the pre-adamic philosphy i'am really wanting to know more.
i was curious as to if there were any posters here that could/would elaborate on thier knowledge of the pre-adamite philosphy.
thanx
Wow! Ya gotta love the Catholic Church's never ending love for having its cake and eating it too.
Ok, children, the evidence of evolution is way too strong for the scholarly Catholic Church to deny any longer... but there's still time to put our little ecclesiastical spin on it.
when you hear the term "pre-adamites" what comes to mind?
Nothing. Since I do not believe in the whole "Adam and Eve" mythology why would I care what came before this mythology existed? OR......I could figure that those folks were pretty danged bored to come up with such outlandish stories.
Greek Myths still hold that Pandora was the first woman, while the Norse are thinking it was Ask and Embla. Still, it's nice to see the Vatican is updating the Hebrew myths, for those that are interested.
When I was a Mormon, some scholars of a scientific bent would try to reconcile evolution with Mormon doctrine. Some thought that perhaps humankind did evolve from ape-type ancestors, eventually something we would recognize as a modern human was born. This would be Genesis's "6th day" (day not meaning 24 hours, but more like an era). God placed into this being, the soul of a man, and thus it became the first man, Adam.
It should go without saying, I don't believe any of this now.
