Either that or he reached some new level of maturity somewhere between the Old and New Testament. Either way, I hoping that someone can explain the old guys transformation from being a raging lunatic; killing off first born children; turning folks in to pillars of salt; making folks wander around the desert; or worse yet super tsunamiing the world, to this kinder gentler, forgiving, peaceful fellow sacrificing his own son (although that might be considered a bit of a relapse) to absolve the sins that he was so worked up about before?

There's only one thing I remember from the OT.

David checking out the bathing wench from the balcony. Yum. Lucky bastard

If I were King, I'd send 100 husbands to war per 24 hours

The explanation is quite simple - two different fantasy novels with different writers, plagiarizing two totally different sources.

A "god fearing christian" was a "good christian" even a century ago...

That's because a society creates the god, not vice versa. Life these days is quite comfortable, predicable and not particularly difficult or full of suffering. Consequently, our version of god is happy, loving, fluffy, full of forgiveness and directly cares about us. In the 1800s, god would more likely shown his displeasure with polio, typhoid, bad water, starvation, a cold outhouse seat and a stern lecture of pain and hellfire every Sunday...

According to some people on here, God is still showing His wrath by setting fires in Texas, flooding New Orleans and bringing Tsunamis. I guess their God is still the same.

Seriously though, God didn't change. People changed. God has always been loving, kind, merciful, forgiving and all that is Truth, Beauty and Goodness. Men used to be cruel and evil to each other and we are now learning that it's Love that commands and not the evil that we once thought. (I agree with you, BTW)

We are doing better in that area, at least.

Tell that to Lot! Hell all his wife did was look back at the old homestead. He wasn't all that damned forgiving to 99% of the planet just because Noah couldn't vouch anyone outside of his family and who knows what kinds of dark secrets Noah didn't know about them.

So what happened to God's super smiting stick in the New Testament?

You do know, right, that the bible is not accurate on many accounts. It's a book of stories from someone's point of view and it doesn't necessarily mean that everything happened just as it says in the book. It's not all literal truth. There are tons of parables in the bible. You have to learn how to discern Truth from truth. (Yes, God's Truth from our truth)
