Well, since you want to deal with the whole world, and most Atheists seem to be so hung up on what is "objective fact"...try this objective fact about the whole world:
Over the last five thousand years, taking the entire world and everyone that has ever lived into account...the score in the Theism VS Atheism contest is about 98(Theism) to2(Atheism). And that is probably being generous to Atheism.
The Champ may lose someday...but I wouldn't suggest betting any money on it any time soon.
Well I would expand this well put graph to even more historical depth; over the last 40,000 years the contest is about 98% Theism to about 2% Atheism.
And I agree this is being generous to Atheism. Theism is the giant in history, and still is now. And nothing can deplant that root, other than the power that implanted it!

Are you saying that it is a historical fact that for the past 40.000 years Theism has mucked up the Earth?

This site about religions would indicate that your 2% is off by a great deal. "Non-religious" accounts for 16% of the earth's population. Half of that grous is theistic in some way.
And its(theism) grip lessens, more and more, each passing day as more humans gain knowledge of the sciences and such.
I think so too. However, the human brain can still be very deceptive. It's part of the survival instinct.
Even as an atheist, I can understand why people want to believe in design and purpose to the universe and not think of it as an illusion. It is tempting.

The grip is so strong and deeply dominant, it will take more than Atheism to remove Theism as the majority. Knowing its the majority, is one reason why some Theist are so obsessed with Atheism; being on top can go to someones head very quickly, and they begin to look down on those in the minority.
I think theism has been dominant throughout history because of humanity's desire for design and purpose in the universe.
It basically comes down to wanting to believe something is true rather than knowing the real evidence.
You cannot prove that atheism is the TRUTH and theism is not.
