Can't read through all the posts, too long, but to answer the original post, they are easy targets. Wish so many would stay still and think why they do...so hurtful, they have no idea.
Because many of these self-styled Christians were already bigoted and hateful of homosexuality - and would be even without religion - but religion gives them a convenient shield to hide behind.
A lot of Christians will try to bamboozle you into thinking "we're only following the Bible" or "we're only doing God's will," and will say all kinds of inane things in order to keep the accusations of bigotry away. This is a lesson in smoke and mirrors, and here is precisely why:
Christians, of course, often refer to Leviticus to point out why homosexuality is a sin - specifically Leviticus 20:13.
Yet here is what gives up the ghost where bigotry is concerned. You see, just three verses earlier, God rants and rampages about how evil adultery is, ordering adulterers to be put to death.
Why, then, isn't there a massive push by Christians to curtail the marriage rights of adulterers? For some inexplicable reason, Christians apparently have little problem with infidelity even though the Bible treats adultery as being at least as bad as homosexuality. Churches aren't spending tens of millions of dollars trying to keep adulterers from marrying (or remarrying); they aren't giving speeches, holding rallies, or trying to pass laws condemning adultery and those who commit it. Nor are businesses discriminating against adulterers in their hiring practices and promotion considerations.
In fact, in America, people who abuse their spouses - literally beat them to within an inch of their lives - have no limitations on marriage. They might be arrested for other charges, but they are not banned from marrying again nor is their current marriage dissolved by the law. Yes, even people who MURDER their spouse can get married again, even from behind the bars of their prison cell if they so desire.
Yet Christians are laser-focused on homosexuals, spending mountains of money and sinking untold numbers of hours into their hateful campaign of trying to keep gays from marrying - even civil unions are fought against by many Christians. If not for simple bigotry and hate, there is NO other reason why an entire religion has mobilized against one very specific demographic group committing one very specific sin - when those committing a plethora of other sins condemned in the very same Biblical book are utterly ignored.
In many ways, that is the very definition of bigotry. And it even goes beyond that, for Christians are usually sexist, as well. The largest and most vocal anti-gay group happens to be men crying about other men having gay sex. Meanwhile, these same men fantasize and get aroused by thinking about two women going at it.
The whole bizarre performance is a lesson in hypocrisy, bigotry, and using religion as a weapon to justify preconceived prejudices against homosexuals.

Excellent post that needs to be internalized by more than a few CD fundamentalists.
But it won't be. They cling to their prejudices like drowning men to flotsam.
Because they're a minority dealing with something most people don't understand and will never have to deal with. Easy scapegoat. Most Christians are greedy, commit adultery, divorce, lie, watch pornography, etc. so they never bother to harp on the sins they themselves commit.
Most anti-gay Christians are also not well educated and clueless about Biblical hermeneutics and just regurgitate out of context english verses their pastor told them to believe in.
In order for me to accept this I would need to know that the bible is 100% accurate and it isn't. Many of the things it claims have been proven wrong. Even marriage was around before the bible or "gods law" was formed. The bible is not the authority nor is it proof of gods existance.
What about the Bible has been proven wrong? Also, if I knew everything to be concrete, I wouldn't need faith. Why does everyone miss that part? Also, I did not post that for anyone to see it as proof. I was simply explaining why I believe what I do. It is funny that when we believe in something that others don't, the one's who don't sound like they are loosing money because we believe. lol
