God talks to Moses and he's a prophet. God talks to me and I'm considered mentally impaired?
Lots of people over the years have observed and commented on the apparent inconsisitency to which you refer here.
For me, a more cogent point is one made by Susan B. Anthony, "I distrust those who know so well what God wants them to do, for I notice it always coincides with their own desires."
Many prophets were considered crazy.
And lets be honest, you had to be because most prophets and other people with a cause in life end up being slaughtered (or sacrificed).
People like Ghandi, Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X for example.
There are many. many prophets that we know about due to historical record:
All the biblical ones, all the ones from other religious books, there are some that have been written about but that no one pays attention to (check out the account of "The Drummer of Niklashausen" - about a German youth who claimed to be the latest god-prophet centuries ago. He gained a following before he was killed by the church). There are even modern ones: Koresh, the leader of Mormonism (which changes but is always a prophet). There is a long long list of people who claim to hear god talk to them - and I'm not even talking about the clinically mentally ill here.
Why is it so easy for me to see that NONE of them are real prophets, and so easy for others to choose one?

Others probably follow a false prophet easily, because they probably are desperate for someone who tells them what to do, or who will turn their life around for them.
I would easily follow a Ghandi, Martin Luther King JR and even Malcolm X because I agree with their cause and I also agree that it is just.
Well, yeah...but would you believe them if, in addition to their just causes, they promoted themselves as direct conduits to God?
I judge people by their actions, not what they say or believe.
It doesn't bother me if they claimed to be conduits to God and are not, as long as they give their all for the cause we believe in.
It's the same with how I view Jesus; I don't care if he really is the son of God or not.
He was courageous because he practised what he preached.
I wouldn't call you mentally impaired, I'd just say you were imagining it... wishful thinking, if you will.
Do you wish to hear from God?
