We will find complete peace only when we express unconditional love, because to love is the true nature of our spirit. When we choose selfishness over love, we go against God and our true nature. This causes turmoil in our spirit. Furthermore when we choose selfishness we hurt ourselves and others by the anxiety, envy, greed, and hate it produces. Selfishness also leads people to violate the natural order established by God. Such violations include contraception, in-vitro fertilizations, abortion (which is the cruelest form of violence), divorce, fornication, adultery, and perverted and sterile sexual acts. Such violations result in breakdown of the moral fabric of the society and of family life; resulting in much suffering, especially to little children.
Unconditional love is the spirit God which is expressed in selflessness, sacrifice and service. To fall in love is to embrace this spirit; and trust in God enables us to embrace this spirit. Because love is selfless, it frees us of selfishness; which in turn frees us from everything that selfishness enslaves us with. When we embrace love we will love our enemies by our acts of sacrifice and prayers for them, will not speak or think evil about others, offer the other cheek when slapped on one, give to everyone that asks, do not ask back what we lend, give and expect nothing in return (Luke 6:27-30), consider our opportunity to sever others as our greatest gift (from God), live to love and see the presence of God in every human being. We can embrace this love, if we let the spirit of God which enabled him (in the person of Jesus) to sacrifice his own life those who hurt and betrayed him, touch our heart.

I see that verbiage appears on a LOT of websites.

Some pleasant expressions there, along with some of the usual moralistic Christian silliness.

unconditional love is no love at all, anything unconditional is stupidity.

1000 of your peaceful people would fall to one insane or malignant warrior not because of their "true nature" but because of simple stupidity.

If It really exists, then The greatest provider of abortions is your God. Also, He watches in-vitro fertilization happen and does nothing, the greatest criminal is the Bad Father.

But you are right, the greatest neighbor is the Good Samaritan, but the good do not provide unconditional nourishment to evil.

I agree about selfishness being a problem and against the laws of God. I do, however, believe that unconditional love is desired by those that are, ah, not deserving of love in the first place. I keep seeing "unconditional" love and it is a red flag. Anyone desiring or demanding unconditional love is better off not in one's life. The way someone finds peace greatly varies but unconditional love, loving someone that fails you again and again, will not give you peace.

I believe TRUE love can only exist unconditionally, and it's easy...like the love a mother has for her newborn child...When we choose "selfishness over love", we may indeed be going against our true nature...or at least a true nature that will afford us peace and contentment...One can absolutely "live to love", and practice selflessness and sacrifice...you don't need to believe in a god to do it either.

Well, I won't give u any guff.
Except this would have been better in the Christian section bec u brought
up Jesus at the end, imo.

You don't mention how a person is supposed to attain unconditional love.
This is the catch.
Express it? How can someone do that if they don't have it? Or don't feel it?
Edit: I see u said 'trust in God'...my mistake. Ok, that is a step, for sure

Sounds like I am giving u guff...but I'm not, I'm actually pursuing the topic.
Trust in God Who is the Spirit of unconditional love....can that really allow a person's heart to be filled with unconditional love?
Like I said, it's a step...I say there is more to it....that's all.
I trust in God and just saying it makes me smile bec I love Him so....

Well, I guess you kinda told LuminousTruth!!!
I agree, completely...and to add, until you've known
unconditional love, imo, you don't really know love...
something else, but not pure love.

When your child, pet, friend, family mem or partner does some almost unforgiveable thing...
you can fill in the blanks...and you still love them...can drop anything, never to
be brought up again...then you know love.
Then...your heart and soul transforms to a few steps above where you were.

Oh yeah. And you can call me stupid, because there is no pride involved.

From the OP:

So rather than causing a breakdown of the moral fabric of society and causing suffering to little children, people inclined toward resolving their incompatibility as marriage partners via divorce, should stay together no matter what?

So if a woman is married to a man who beats her, cheats on her, and is violent toward their children, she should not risk breaking down the moral fabric of society and causing those children to suffer by ending the marriage? She should hang in there no matter how awful life is?

This is someone's idea of wisdom?
