I'm sorry. I misspoke. Non-believers appear to be more knowledgeable about religion, in general, however.

Here is the study: U.S. Religious Knowledge Survey | Pew Research Center's Religion & Public Life Project

Would you like to address the study or anything else in my original post?

Well the willful ignorance and denial of fact bubbled to the top really quick.

When did we start putting all of our trust into surveys? According to the last election, the polls were not in favor for Obama to win. We all see how that turned out... He won! How accurate was that?

Also, I find it strange that a religious survey was taken and atheists knew so much about religions that they didn't believe in. I thought atheists didn't believe in God? So why do they read the word if they don't believe?? Kinda odd how they had to establish a religion to not believe in God in order to not believe in God.

I dunno... Sounds fishy to me. And I'll probably get crucified for saying what I did. Oh well... Bring it

its real secret is in the pudding. if it does not work people drop it. if it works they keep it.
for me i would have perished long ago but for my religion. it is a relgion focused on healing.
not just physical things.
very effective. most that know me feel that i am just extremely lucky but if that were so i would have cleaned out the casinos long ago. LOL

That's why we are atheists. We know more about religion than the religious that accept it blindly.

It is also prudent to know as much as possible about threats, and religion is the greatest threat to freedom, and even mankind's future that currently exists.

“Properly read, the Bible is the most potent force for atheism ever conceived.”
― Isaac Asimov

The majority of nontheists in America were once very religious. Most of us had an intimate knowledge of religion prior to the snap in our cognitive dissonance... when we finally "saw the light."

Considering my father was a deacon and former youth pastor, is a Baptist apologist, and I was heavily exposed this this brand of theology, becoming a hard core Bible-thumper myself -- fundamentalist, literalist, young earth creationist, Textus Receptus devotee, inerrantist, futurist, etc., who lived, breathed and preached the doctrine and debated fervently against naysayers for years, I'd say I know the Bible. But I not only know it from the perspective of a fundamentalist, but I have studied it from a great many perspectives spanning many different flavors of Christian theology. I also dedicated years to studying theology, Biblical hermeneutics, Church ecclesiology, early Christianity, ancient history, ANE religions/history, and comparative religion (my major along with philosophy).

So, yeah, I know quite a damn bit.

We don't believe in mythological deities, yes, you're correct.[/quote]

A good number of us read it, and the more we studied it and various other sources/material, we began approaching it from an objective and critical perspective. In short: we applied our critical thinking skills, because that's how we're meant to function.

Well, that clears it up. I don't know anything other than what I know about the Bible. I have no desire to study and learn about other peoples faiths and religions. I've seen a lot of confusion happen that way. The devil tends to do his best work to people who enter that state of mind. Now remind you, this is just my opinion, this isn't a bash against anyone! I just choose not to dabble in things that could do harm to my relationship with God.

May I ask why religion poses such a threat to freedom? Because I actually see it the other way around. I think those who give themselves to evil and darkness are the ultimate threat. This country was founded by people who were "religious". Granted, not my idea of religious, but they claimed to be. After all, doesn't it say, "one nation, under God"? They wrote some amazing constitutions that I am ALL FOR protecting!!! I love this country and I want the best for our country! I don't see how I could be a threat. I hate that I get lumped into the same category as all the other hard core crazy fanatics who really don't know anything about the Bible yet they claim they do. So I'm just wondering how someone like me, who loves people with her whole heart and would give the clothes off her back, could be such a threat to a country that was founded under God? I just hate this whole idea. I really do. I just don't know why we can't love one another and get along. When it comes down to it, and we have to stand together and fight against our foreign enemies, how can we do that if we can't trust and love the person we are standing next to? We have to stick together as a country and really figure out how to live in peace with one another. The greatest gift of all is love. Without love, we have nothing.

Translate Theist into english 'I don't want to know about anything that might cause me to doubt the whacky claims of Christianity'.

The best way to guarantee freedom for a country and a people is to ensure that no one religion has a stranglehold on it.

I am grateful for my relationship with God .
Though it was a church the initiated the relationship , Dad taught me a more desperate pursuit of God and that relationship .
What Jesus Christ provided in the Holy Spirit, is what might be recognized as a sixth sense ,in that through the Holy Spirit, one can receive instruction of God in their life .
With out this Holy Spirit connection , all men have is academics and history, and the left-overs of books and the guess work of other men.
Friendship with God is on is terms, not man's terms .
Dishonesty and rebellion do not in dear any one to another person , particularly God whom knows the heart "a man's intentions" .
People fool one another learning religious terms, academics, and memorizing favorite texts, and popular songs, and motions, people practice in the appearance of religious form, this is still not a relationship with God , nor is simply stating that one believes in God, equivalent to making it so.
Believing in ebay one must actually practice doing business through that service ,something is invested and there is a return.
Merely to say you believe in it and do nothing, is not belief .
There are fallen angels that are called demons , they certainly know God is real but they have chosen to rebel,, and in a war cast from heaven.
There is no question in their mind concerning God's existence, in them it is a matter of respect.
They have taken their existence for granted. (much like men do.)
Believing in God, puts Him in charge of ones life, not by assumption ,but by a regular act of desperation and will and humility, and love.
And that's the way I like it .
And the return.
God answers my prayer, and teaches me how to pray, and whom or what to pray for.
And I get guidance through out my day .
