I didn't check out the link but if women are perceived to be more "religious" I think it's because they're more empathic, more in tune with feeling, and thus more certain - on an elemental, if not intellectual level - that there is much more to our world than can be perceived by five senses or man-made instruments.
Some good responses. To me, one of the best arguments in the article relates to how women experience higher levels of anxiety than men (certainly not all women, but on average). Religion certainly seems to have the potential to eleviate anxiety, but it also seems to have potential for creating it: I don't know how I'd cope if I were constantly worried about my fate in the afterlife.
But ultimately, as some of the earlier posters mention, this is an area without definite explanations, or if definite explanations do exist, they're probably too difficult for us to understand entirely. There's still so much about human behavior and our brain that is unknown, and maybe unknowable that all we can do is speculate.
To me, it seems somewhat puzzling considering that so many religions are blatantly sexist, or at least are often interpreted as such. Historically and even now the bible is used to justify some truly awful sexism.
Why do you think women are more religious than men?
Women TEND to have a higher participation of their right brain sensitivity and intuition in their information processing of reality. This gives them a greater tendency to believe in God. (Note the "TEND" in this opinion.)
I notice that Muslim woman are often more religious than Muslim men. I think there are different factors than what are found among Christian woman, as a Mosque general is not a form of socialization.
Perhaps it is because in Islam the Mother is the primary source of a young Muslin's Islamic education and also woman most often say their required prayers at home.
While women are not required to pray in the Mosque they seem to be the ones most willing to be certain not to miss any of the obligatory prayers.

I've read that as well, but it seems like a proximate explanation. Why then do women tend to have higher levels of right-brain sensitivity/activity? I know that's a complex issue though...
Men are not less religious than women, unless maybe you are only counting the members of Christian faiths.
