Thtat's how I feel this morning. I know the theological answer (1John 1:9) about confession and receiving His forgiveness and cleansing etc. I know all that, but sometimes when I fall into areas that I seemingly continue to have problems with from time to time, it's discouraging. It's more of an emotional feeling than theological. It's like you know and believe God forgives you but you just feel disgusted about it. That's how I feel this morning. My husband noticed my "less than chipper" mood this morning and inquired about it. When I told him that one of the things that was bothering me was that I'm such a big sinner, he pretty much laughed at me! But I know the truth. if you know what I mean. Does anyone else ever feel this way??
Not to make light of your situation but honestly when I am sinning I usually feel pretty good (think about it in order to sin you have to let go of yourself...which even if bad is a sort of release)...then when I realize I've behaved badly I am sorry and remorseful, possibly even a bit guilty. Could it be that you are not so much depressed as feeling guilty? That I have felt before and even though I have made ammends I will still feel it at times. So maybe you need to forgive yourself and that will help you feel better.
Irish is right, kaykay, you need to forgive yourself, God has already forgot about your sins and mine. We humans on the other hand tend keep reminding ourselves of it.

Well, you're right. Self-forgiveness is definitely a part of it! Sometimes we need to consciously remind ourselves of that ... or have someone else remind us as you just did.

I know exactly how you feel, kaykay. Why did I fall into this again? Why can't I be different? Often I find out that I'd been relying on my own strength, and maybe that's what made me feel extra bad. I failed again!

Why is this? Things that I have definitely felt remorse, asked for forgiveness and repented from still cause me guilt years later. Even after I have taken responsiblity for my actions and moved past. Why do we still think about these things and feel guilt?

I blame the nuns.
LOL! Well, irish, I was raised Protestant so unfortunately, I can't blame the nuns!!

Hey! That's okay. I feel that way sometimes, and don't worry - it's just your flesh. I know God forgives you if you've asked for forgiveness, and anything else you feel is from the Devil, not God. Once forgiven, always forgiven. Cheer up, so hug your hubbie.

I think those are the "fiery darts" that Satan fires into our head every chance he gets. He's always trying to keep us feeling depressed and guilty hoping that we will just give up altogether. "Put on the full armor of God" and "resist the devil and he will flee from you."
