Outspoken Atheist Asked What He’d Say to God After Death, Discovering ‘It’s All True.’ His Answer Throws the Interviewer for a Loop.
British comedian, actor and author Stephen Fry — a hardline atheist — appeared on a spiritually minded TV show and was asked by the host what he’d say after death, discovering that God really does exist.
“Suppose it’s all true, and you walk up to the pearly gates, and are confronted by God,” the host asked. “What will Stephen Fry say to him, her, or it?”
“I’d say, 'bone cancer in children? What’s that about?'”
I think the reaction to his comment was simply a reflection of a response that struck a nerve, and the frustration of those expressing outrage that they had no legitimate response to his pinpoint query. We may agree or disagree with his overall philosophy, but his condemnation of the mythos of an active, omniscient, omnipotent, compassionate deity is impossible to refute.
This question is as absurd and pointless as asking anyone what they'd say to the attendant leprechaun if they found out that there really was a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
I have only recently become aware of Fry and this is the first clip of him I've had a moment to listen to. I must say that I am impressed. And I must say that the interviewer's reactions were absolutely priceless.

That may be but some things are just fun.
For instance, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie Oh God with George Burns as god.
With a surname like "Fry" ... you have to wonder if his future wasn't already predetermined ....
Heh ... to a fundamentalist, he must be the devil incarnate. Not only is he a hard atheist, but he's gay, and married to a far younger man. So much to judge, so little time ...
