^That's it. We humans like to set up our organizations, don't we.
Yep. That's what our Darwinist religion really is - an Organization, and there are no sectarian power struggles at all between the Darwin -founded Orthodoxy and the Dawkinist based radicals and certainly not turf wars between UU atheist churches and Zombie -marching fundy -atheists. And I can't remember the last time we dragged away the bloodstained corpses of one of those Darwin -dammned Harrisonite-Tysonist "call -us -something -else-ist" heretics. Not that anything like that ever happened, of course.
What verse said He was going to found a Christian Church, Katz?
Tu es Petra.
Matthew 16. 18. I believe, and (as I recall..I was wrong about 'do not stop him) a Matthew one -off, as are all those passages designed to underpin Vatican authority.
What verse said He was going to found a Christian Church, Katz?
I think you know as well as I do, Mystic, that in Matthew 16:18, He said, "Upon this rock I will build my church." Did He say, "I'm going to establish 'a Christian Church'?" Uh... no. He said He was going to establish His Church. And His Church would be the Church of Jesus Christ. It seems obvious to me, though maybe not to you, that this would be a Church His disciples (i.e. those who came to be known as "Christians") would affiliate themselves with. As to whether that Church survived in its original form or not is a topic best left to another thread.
I know, Arq. I was just pointing out that no CHURCH was founded. The conflicting interpretations abound.
I should have known you knew that. That's the basis for a Church, and whether that means the original and still the best, or one of the reformed ones, or all of them and denominations don't matter, that's the relevant passage - If you believe Jesus said it and it wasn't Just Matthew.
Since none of the others recording that exchange incorporate that significant point, I'm taking it that it was Matthew's own contribution, and I'd guess underlined his.doctrinal views.
