I want to be buried in a forest with a tree planted on top of me. Or under a tree. So I can feed the tree. My final useful act.
This is so beautiful!!! My mom wants to do the same and if I can't become one with the ocean when I transition...being buried in a forest, beneath a tree, would be my next spot.

Anecdotal story: I knew a militant atheist at work a number of years ago. He would discuss the topic with anybody, whether the other person wanted to discuss it or not. He had atheistic cartoons and slogans plastered all over his office walls. He told me that he had clearly instructed his children that there was to be nothing religious involved with his funeral or memorial when he dies. He told his children that if they let religion have any part in his memorial that he would come back and haunt them for eternity.
He was trying to make sure, inadvertently, that his children believed in afterlife.
Consciousness or soul (whatever one wants to call it) doesn't see anything with your eyes but with it's own eyes. That's how one can see something in dreams when fast asleep even if never having seen it before. Perhaps the militant atheist knew all about it because of his dreams and nightmares.

The subconscious and imagination (what you call the soul's own eyes) is not very well understood, but an unknown is not a known.
There is no good or valid reason to believe in a soul or an afterlife or indeed that dreams are a revelation of some reality in the afterlife or a spirit -dimension. And indeed there are good reasons to believe they are not. From all I've heard of actual dreams they are confused and nonsensical. Whatever they are, they do not like truthful revelations about anything.

All of the comments about his behavior imply some religious aspect to his reference to an afterlife. His reference to haunting was no more religious than the haunting discussed on all the ghost hunting programs on television. Ghost Hunters, Ghost Adventures, Ghosts Of Shepherdstown, Haunted Towns of America, Haunted Collector. They aren't talking about angels, souls, & heaven. They are talking about ghosts & spirits in some different aspect. I have no idea what those things are, but he was definitely not implying anything religious about haunting them from the afterlife.
The concept of Atheism varies from follower to follower; however, a general belief in a majority of Atheists, IMO, is that death is the final end, and there is nothing after it!
On the other hand, believers of almost all faiths believe that consciousness continuous after we die.
Looks like science is slowling moving in favor of believers.
What's gonna happen now is that those Atheists who previously believed that there is nothing after death, will slowly change their stance, and now come up with theories like, "ohh yeah, we may be moved into another parallel universe, or we come back as animals, or our consciousness just floats in the wide space of universe etc.
I am an atheist and I have always believed that some kind of afterlife is possible. Doubtful but not impossible. It comes down to what exactly is "consciousness" and does it require both a live body, and the five senses. But none of that mystery requires a god despite some people's need to declare the existence of a god if a rather farfetched hypothesis turns out to have substance. Likewise, pandemics and earthquakes are not indications of an angry god, contrary to what was once believed.
I'm not sure what theism does with such knowledge if it were ever concluded that there is a consciousness after death. The best I can figure is; it would be the subject of conversations around the workplace water cooler, conversations consisting of a variety of opinions. It certainly does not mean that there really was a Noah who built an ark, or that Jesus actually fed thousands with a few loaves of bread and a couple of fish, or that Muhammad spoke to an archangel.
Both options sound pretty good provided there's no embalming.
Embalming fluid is very toxic since it contains a mixture of formaldehyde, glutaraldehyde, methanol, and or other solvents. No creature or plant would be happy with these toxic chemicals seeping into their environment.

I want to go all natural no embalming for me!
Your body will need to be buried or cremated within a day or two of your death. That is the way in the Jewish religion. Or frozen until such time.

Makes sense...I wonder if it's apart of the Levitical rule book or was/is it just considered common sense.
