According to the Bible, the Earth once stopped turning for about 24 hours at a command from Joshua and then resumed its normal rotation, and a man named Jonah lived for several days in the belly of a large fish without being digested (shades of Pinocchio). Incredibly, there are still many very silly people living among us to this day here in the 21st century that insist that these unrealistic myths are literally true and occurred just as described. You might even know some of these incredibly ignorant and gullible people yourself.
The point of the OP, I believe, is that Christian claims of the return of Jesus have long since been proven to be pure rubbish. "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me for 2,000 years and
You're not going to get anything out of someone who refuses to believe and is unable to get to sleep without thinking that many people are going to suffer, simply because he hates his own life.
Think of it as trying to deal with a giant baby who wants his toys and his candy. Logic doesn't work with some people.

yup. ozz, thats why you see me say "I deal with brain age; not calendar age". More precisely, brain state.
What I can't figure out is that some people are smart enough to understand that notion but insist on going tit for tat with them instead of dealing with the issue at hand. Lead them into the light is much better than smashing them over the head with the lamp. Most times that is. I mean, even in my teams ranks we dopes that are better off used as cannon fodder.

The issue at hand is what the gospels say or don’t say about Jesus’ return. The validity of the Bible is NOT the topic here.

It's very much like when I dealt with students on discipline and yes, even teachers on justifying grades. One lie or misrepresentation is often the beginning of the crumbling of the foundation before the whole thing collapses. And so -- at least for me -- when you see these fables being said to the word of god and people swearing they're absolutely true, it brings into serious question every other passage in the bible. And the reason is that the ten commandments deal with...oops...lying. And misrepresentation is lying.

You're sort of reminding me of the courtroom lawyer who raises objections when the opposing lawyer is getting close to some truth that may adversely affect his case. But I'll play your game a start another thread using your sentence, as bolded above.
No it's not. Because the broader topic here is whether one can have confidence in scripture and the interpretation of scripture.
That is NOT the topic. Hence, your qualifier.
