Typically the word is used as a proper noun for the Christian deity. Other religions usually go by a specific name.
When it is not capitalized, it is just interchangeable with the word deity.
Sometimes pantheists use it as a sort of term for various things like nature or reality when they want to be somewhat poetic at the expense of clarity.
He told Moses "I am that I am" He has always been and will always be. He is all I will ever need. The creator of everything. He is Holy and loved the world enough to send Jesus to die for us on the cross. "My God" is tossed around in our society and used flippantly and casually. Sometimes people saying this don't even believe in God. God's name is Holy and should be used boldly and reverently.
i use the term "God" interchangably with Creator, and the All That Is, and the I AM.
It is the divine force from which all of creation springs, and that breathes all of us.
