To take out your checkbook and do what you can to help the human beings in the Philippines who are victims of a natural disaster.
I challenge you to do it, because it is the right thing to do. People are displaced, starving, injured, and supplies are running out.
I challenge you to look up your favorite charity, Red Cross, CARE, Catholic charities, and many others to find out how and where to send a check in.
Every donation of a few dollars adds up.
I have already written a check.
I bring this up and post it on the religion and spirituality section as an appeal to the religious the humanists those who care about making our world a better place.
Involvement is optional this is not an obligation, this is a challenge. Do you have the strength to put your money where your beliefs are, as so many others have done.
These are, after all, human beings. These are people who have hopes, dreams, fears, ideas, aspirations and love of their families just as we do. They are victims of nature. If we care, we can prove it.
And we do, and we will.
Whenever there is a major disaster, the company I work for sends out an email asking if anyone wants to make a donation to the Red Cross or whoever is handling the disaster. We just reply and they will take it out of our pay and match it.
All companies should do this, if they can. It takes away any effort on our part and people are more likely to give if they don't have to do anything. Sad, but true.
As the days pass and the full scope of the tragedy is realized a number of very worthy organizations will be asking for donations. There is going to be TREMENDOUS need among the people of the Philippines. (It's been my experience that they are a loving, giving people themselves.) I join in urging people to give what they can.

I don't believe in altruism. If a person in front of me asks for money, I'll hand some out, maybe.
But there is no moral need to help others. We are afterall, all gonna die, and death might bring a relief from pain in nothingness, a better world, or a new rebirth. So, how do we know it isn't for the better not to help others in this life?
Every month, I donate to my Church's Humanitarian Fund, whether there's a need at that moment for my funds or not. The LDS Church will undoubtedly step in as soon as humanly possible with food, clothing and medical supplies for those affected by this natural disaster, and 100% of the donations will go to help those who are in need.
