Ok.. tax them. Then make sure every corporation in America sets aside some of their earnings in the form of charity for the greater community good.

No good?

Churches (by and large) exist to fill a community need. No I do not believe some of the mega churches fill that need but you don't throw out the baby with the bathwater.

Easy fix.. require every non-profit to precisely outline what their community benefit was in $$'s every single year.

easy peasy..

The difference is that religion is not a community need, it's an organization people choose to participate in. It's like any other social group, and should be taxed the same way.

There are 38 churches in my town of 28,000. My 4H group does more community outreach than all of those churches combined. We meet in the auditoriums of elementary schools because we can't afford a building (and we're not for profit too), nor would we want to waste money so frivolously. We also don't encourage members to vote for/against propositions for for/against candidates (like many of the churches in my town did).

Sorry, but after the experiences I've had with the churches in my town, I'm all for taxing them.

I didn't realize that churches are exempt from property taxes until I dug into it a little deeper. I knew that their profits could not be taxed but apparently they can't be taxed for much of anything and I don't think that's right. I have no problem with religious freedom and in fact I support it completely but I do have a problem with freedom from any kind of taxes because myself and every other American taxpayer are having to pick up the slack for multimillion dollar megachurches who are raking in millions and are exempt from paying a single cent to the IRS. I don't think that the authors of our Constitution could have anticipated the business of religion back in the late 1700's.

Angry Yes tax them all.

Once a church says anything about politics they have crossed the line of seperation of church and state and should be taxed. Tons of this kind of actions took place during both times bush the idiot was running for president. And the same thing was happening just before President Obama took office.

So yes, tax the He## out of them all, it'll probible get us out of this recession .

God Bless President Obama and his wonderful wife and kids.

Community outreach is only one part of a church's mission.

They're such a small group, it wouldn't amount to much. Still, IA.
