The more often Americans go to church, the more likely they are to support the torture of suspected terrorists, according to a new survey.

Survey: Support for terror suspect torture differs among the faithful - CNN.com

Maybe I shouldn't be surprised since most evangelicals believe in eternal torture.

But I was surprised.

Default when israel confronted and rejected torture

one only need read this article in the may 1. 09 NY times in the opinion section (see above title)

justice aharon barak to the israeli parliament:

"this the destiny of democray, as not all means are acceptable to it , and not all practices employed its enemies are open before it."

"although a democracy must often fight with one hand tied behind its back, it nonetheless has the upper hand."

Christian or not, many are being misled and duped by TV talk hosts and don't undertsand our system or gov't. with the same tongue we want gestapo like tactics and then want to preach human rights and morals and values. then we turn our backs on the darfur region and chase after oil , yet our congress has forgotten it now that prices are low.

I see no consistency in our gov't practices and nothing but salt and fresh water coming from the same well.

fear mongering is what has caused thousands to flock to gun shows thinking they can make themselves safer than they are.

"The Lord is my helper, what can man do to me?" Heb13

I am not surprised at all. Try reading Genesis and you will see how their God behaves when they are doing what any normal person would call immoral. God is always on their side, even when they are killing a whole town of people for one person raping one of their own.

I was curious what the response would be on the Christian forum but it got moved here.

Oh well, maybe the answer is self evident.

It doesn't seem to be such a big difference after all. 54% christian support and something like 41% non christians support. i am really shocked that the non christians are not more against it.

Yes, moving the thread is a statement. Your thread does not depict christians as they want to see themselves.

Or, since it is speaking of Christians and atheists, it should be under R&P. Not to mention this is the 2nd thread that speaks of this survey, which, was only a little over 700 people out of how many in the world? Anyone that thinks torture is ok, needs to do some serious thinking.

And of course it's not how we want to see other Christians view torture. Torture is sick.
