Ok, today on CNN was a man from the military and he stated "God will help us win this war", now this is what I was talking about. Is this really what people think? Or is that more of what they teach in the military so people don't feel bad about killing other people? I can see the reasoning behind it, but I'm not sure how far this belief goes. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Everyone thinks God is on their side. But people rarely can tell what God thinks. I have a WWI German army belt here (complete with suspenders, ammo pouches, etc.). It says "God is with us", in German obviously. And obviously, that wasn't entirely the case...
But the idea that God is on your side is a comforting thought sometimes for a soldier, I imagine.

before or afterwards? within the confines of collateral damages as commonly "stated" and widely unrecognized?
Both, I guess in my opinion it would be what ever works at the time. lol I am not religious, I do seek answers, but have not found them yet. lol I also respect what others believe and what works for them is fine with me.

so long as no more fines are imposed on voicing unpopular opinions, insignificant as they have long become ...

I think this must be a very comforting thought for those who plan wars and as a powerful selling point to convince their populations that war is just. Also, to take into account that war will cause a high number of civilian casualties (on the opposing side), but that's okay because god probably doesn't like those of different religions anyway.
