Just curious what everyone thinks Jesus wants us to do and be. This is NOT a question of how you think the visible church is acting today, but I want to know what you believe Jesus commanded the church to be and do.
Being an atheist I think the purpose of religion is a mechanism for control. It creates pride and a blank check for enforcing ego.
Having read the bible I think Jesus wants people to see people as brothers and let God worry about who the sinners are and what penalties those sins are entitled to. I think the inability to see other humans as humans leads to all kinds of atrocities. T think that was the core message of Jesus. They kept trying to trip Jesus up with sinners and laws and Jesus was like Pfftt...They only time I remember Jesus getting ticked off was when people would try to us God to condemn someone and that time in the temple when people were making money cheating worshipers who came to God's house. That very well may be why the bible warns against judging others or trying to remove straw from someone else'eye. When I was backing myself out of the indoctrination I decided I was going to take the broad road because odds were that is where I would end up anyway. There was no one there because everyone was on the narrow road. Whaddya gonna do?
Actually the purpose of Christianity is to Worship God and to spread the Gospel of Christ......... Where pride and control and divisions are to works of the adversary spirit of this world and not of the living God through Jesus

Are we to just love everyone?
Yes. That is unequivocal. Christ was adamant about it.

Are we to preach hate?
Absolutely NOT! Stopping people from harming OTHERS is NOT hate. Hate is a state of mind that must be avoided at all costs because it taints your Spirit.
Quote:
ARe we to preach something else?
You are to BE something else and you can use words if you need to.
What do you believe is the purpose of Christianity?
Sadly, Vizio and other Christians seem to THINK the purpose of Christianity is "To believe specific things about God and Jesus along with an assortment of beliefs both barbaric and implausible while focusing on what they THINK are the sins of others as a self-congratulatory means of excluding them from their ranks."
I believe the purpose of Christianity is: "To emulate Christ in all ways and follow His instructions to His disciples to love God and each other every day and repent when we don't."
IMO,
The actual and true message of Jesus has been miscegenated over the centuries and it has been taken over by the Nicene creed.
Jesus was a human, and a God's chosen prophet who was born through the virgin birth and who used to breathe life into the dead. These were his miracles.
Jesus carried over the same continuous message of monotheism just like many, many prophets before him brought the same message of monotheism.
This message of monotheism was later changed into the idea of Trinity for polotical reasons and that made billions of people gone astray in today's world where Christians are somehow made to think that "believe in Jesus and you are blessed" is the only way of salvation.
This is the belief system of modern day Christianity and I have no problem with it. I respect it but I don't agree with it.
