If you don't want non-Christian ideas, this is probably not the place to be...which I'm quite sure you're already aware of. (ETA: Well...you say you're new, so I guess I shouldn't say I'm sure you were already aware. I would think just scrolling down would give an idea, but who knows and who am I to say--sometimes I just jump in with questions too.)
Therefore, the question becomes: Why do Christians who are firm in their beliefs come here?
"Oh, to share ideas with other Christians!" is usually the cry.
So, in order to share ideas with other Christians, rather than finding a Christian board, they flock here, to a place notorious for strife between the religious and the non-religous, the religious-but-not-Christian and the Christian, and even
among Christian faiths?
"Well, some of us come here to spread Jesus' word," others murmur piously.
Oh really? Didn't Jesus say to tell people about him
and then move on if they didn't believe?
No, I'm pretty sure Christians come here for the same reason any of us do: To cement
their own beliefs through argument. Therefore, I have a sneaking suspicion that the great majority of Christians here don't trust their own faith quite as much as they'd have the rest of us believe.
And then, of course, there is the group (there's always this group--on any message board) that just likes to take out its aggressions on others, its frustrations with life, and its feeling of "smallness" in real life, and therefore pops on the net to taunt "I have the holy ghost--which means I'm better than you," "At least I'm not going to hell," and all the old standbys, either explicity stated, implicitly hinted at or very poorly veiled.
It does seem to give some people a feeling of "being better" for their keyboard bullying by trying to minimize atheists' and agnostics' reason for being here. It kinda just screams of insecurity to me. "I may not be much--but look--I'm better than..." (looks around the room frantically) "THAT guy!"
And, yes. As the others said, there have been tons of such posts on this board already asking atheists and agnostics why they don't come here. Scroll down.
