According to the article, it doesn't sound like the government came down on those two men. More like the judge acting out of his own convictions.

And yet, such austere guv'mint organizations as The Ohio, Kansas and Texas Boards of Education feel empowered to inject pure speculation as to Creation and Genesis stories into the high-school science curriculum.

Oh wait, it wasn't in America. I forgot how fortunate we are compared to other places in the world.
I feel that judge was extremely harsh on them, 14 years of prison and hard labor? WTH, I'm sure the judge himself makes mistakes, but he's still not in jail for the "unnatural" things he probably does.
