Reading the Bible Again For the First Time: Taking the Bible Seriously But Not Literally, by Marcus Borg is a wonderful book that explains scripture in context related to the times and culture they were written in and what that means for today. I just thought I'd thow it out there for those that may want a good read.

I might have to read that book, right now I am focused on three books though: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The book of Mormon, and a book of Grimm's Fairytales (I'm reading all of them, some 628 pages worth of the brothers Grimm and who would guess all their stories are the same?) and I have to work on a project for The Count of Monte Cristo, so once I thin out my books a little I might check this one out, oh, and I also want to read the Apocrypha because I haven't read it before.

IrishMom. If you haven't read the original bible yet I'de start there. You can draw some personal conclusions and then go onto someone else's perceptions to see if the foundation they've built on is sound. I'm glad you are seeking Him. You'll find him if you've not thus far. Peace.

Oh I have read it, several times and several different translations, and have come to my own personal conclusions. Marcus Borg does a great job though of explaining the context of the times in which it was writtend vs. today's times. So it is a great read. He has many other titles as well and all are quite good.
