As someone considering a move too, I was wondering about whether there are desert critters in Reno as well. My understanding is that Northern Nevada isn't really the desert. I mean, it's on the same latitude as San Francisco. This isn't really Vegas or Arizona, right?

I have never been to Reno, but I will say that in other threads here, most people say that, in the city there aren't much for critters, but if you get into rural areas, you might find some.

I lived in N. Reno off of 395 and Red Rock for 18 years. During that time I never ever saw or heard of anyone seeing a scorpion.

I have friends who were rural out Red Rock and had large lots of land. They had the occassional rattle snake and then the periodic Mormon Cricket invasions but thats about it.

Black widows are common in the summer in cool dark places, some mosquitos if near water and flies in late summer. That's about it, no fleas, no roaches and not many other types of bugs.

The area is considered a high desert, the altitude and dry atmosphere combined with cold winters are not bug friendly.

We are a high desert, 4500 ft up, and very dry, so there's not much of any bugs around here and I've never seen a scorpion here, not that I've been looking. There are snakes and rabbits. There are hardly even any bugs in my home, mostly house flies and occasion spiders.

. I grew up in Reno and had never even seen a cockroach until I went to Georgia to visit family. I also have never seen nor heard of a scorpion in Reno. We have rattlesnakes and spiders. And yes, it is the high desert so it is really a desert but we don't have cactus. [mod cuts--off topic]

Moved to red rock rd area about 15 miles off of interstate this last august.
Newer house three days into living there my german shepherd ate a scorpion traveling accros the living room floor
She had alittle swelling on the nose but no real issues
Found a gap under the front door where it came in fixed it and havent seen one INSIDE since
Ive seen them under old railroad ties in the yard theyre pretty solitary.
my house was vacant for a few years.
Havent seen any rattlers though on ten acres.

There are scorpions in Reno. The sting is painful, but not dangerous like you can find in Arizona and Mexico.
