Good news for Reno! I think it's poised for rebirth.

It's going to cost $73million in tax breaks over 10 years.. That money will end up coming from somewhere. Last I read it was only going to mean about 40 full time jobs in the end.

Yes, but isn't that $73million that they wouldn't have had anyway? Looks like a 30 year committment, so it begins paying off (taxwise) in year 11. Furthermore, it's presence may generate other buisness to locate there.

The data center, codenamed "Project Jonathan", is said to be planned to generate nearly 600 construction jobs and as many as 41 direct and 200 contractor jobs upon opening.

Correct. They wouldn't have had the money anyway. But once they move in, the employees are benefiting from Reno's schools, police and fire departments. The employees are using the infrastructure. And Apple isn't paying for it.

And the other businesses that may relocate are going to want the same kind of sugar that Apple got. What's next? Will the Koch brothers or Donald freakin' Trump negotiate tax-breaks to move to a new town? "Sure, Boca Raton, I could be persuaded to buy a winter house. But I don't want to pay any property taxes."

That sounds RIDICULOUS when an individual does the same thing.

You also have to wonder whether any of those jobs will go to locals, or whether Reno will just gain 40 new residents whio already have employment.

My best friend in California works for apple and they are investing a lot of money over there too. They just opened a bunch of new buildings in Silicon Valley that use to be HP or Compaq buildings. They are really expanding.

Not to mention that when the market takes a downturn I'll be they have plans in place that will allow them to cut and run.. The usual is spin off a new company, load it full of debt and let it go bankrupt.

This type of wheeling and dealing only benefits the business in the long run, and their political cronies. Fascism light.

Yeah, like when Solyndra went belly-up. Who got paid off before the taxpayers? An Obama cronie named Kaiser.
