Hi,

I've been thinking of moving to Reno. I've read a lot about severe droughts for NV and California. With Tesla coming in and the drought in place is drinking water an issue. I was also looking at a house with a well. Should I be concerned about the possibilities of water shortages in Reno? Would I be better off with a well?

Here's an article for you Deepening drought threatens Nevada's very way of life

There is no problem with drinking water, and I don't think Nevada or California will be running out of water any time soon, but it would help a lot if Home Owner's Associations were prohibited from fining residents for having brown spots in their lawn, when I lived in an HOA in Reno we got countless warnings about brown spots but watering is restricted to certain days so to avoid being fined I had to go out and hand water the brown spots every morning- what a load of crap that was

I know of several people who have had to drill deeper wells, at quite a cost , due to the continued growth as well as drought in northern NV. It is not a cheap fix and I would definitely ask how deep the well is on any property you are considering. And I would get a home inspection contingency to be sure that someone looks at plumbing and all the other important stuff. But I always get an inspection whenever we have bought a property on well and septic. It has worked to our advantage more than once. If you have a well you are probably going to have a septic too.
