Can my landlord ask me to pat the rent to a Debt Collector and not them?

He can ask for anything.. Does not mean you should do it. (I assume you are on time/current on your rent).

I would pay him directly, by Check, Money Order, so you can prove you payed your rent, Get recepit if possible. Keep copies of all of them.

He the LL wants to sign your check over to the Debt Collector he can. But thats for him to do after you have paid him.
