OMG...Loved the map. Wish I seen one for Orange County CA and Las Vegas before I moved there.

the "houses for rent" area might fit your bill... plenty of trees and close enough to a Best Buy

This gives me some starting points to check out. Again, at my age I'm looking for a 2 bedroom or 3 bedroom apt for $1,400 to $1,600/mo. Attached 2 car garage would be perfect. Then in time, I may purchase a ranch style house. Its only my fiance and I. I'm not looking to live in all the downtown congestion, Little Tijuana or the garbage you see along the Las Vegas strip. Originally from Chicago, I'm still in love with the Midwest suburbia style of a neighborhood. This is what hooked me on Summerlin near Red Rock. Thanks for all the info.

If you're looking for Midwest style ranch homes, look in the Northwest and Southwest area. The Old SW in particular has nice tree lined streets with mostly well kept ranch style homes.

I think the Sparks area around the Marina/Legends shopping is an area to consider. Plenty of shopping, nicer neighborhood, the Marina is a fun place to walk, jog, bike.

I've been keeping track at the areas mentioned in this thread along with other threads. I noticed a hot topic in threads is the CRAZY high rents that don't match up with the low paying jobs in the Reno area. After re-reading my original post and my replies, I want to also add that I may be getting a $20/hr full time job and I also get a $2,600/mo pension after taxes. I hope this helps in suggesting apartments in areas.

Fernley would technically be 30 minutes to a Best Buy but that's going 80mph on I-80
I agree with that. Shocked to find one beds going for $1200... and maybe it's not that it's "nicer" but safer. Had a lot of car thefts, etc. down town/Idlewild/Hidden Valley. Sadly I don't know what the driving force is... but people willing to pay $1600 to rent is just scary, period. Reno is a boom/bust economy, and a lot of low wages and wealthy investors. This place is going to have problems just like the last time.

OK I noted all the above replies and I got into Reno/Sparks this eve. Staying at Nugget in Sparks. For my own evaluation, I plan to drive to Peppermill casino/Virginia Lake area, Meadow Mall area, Marina area, Walmart in Sparks (445 North of 659). Maybe I can make it to NW & SW of Reno. Dont know if I'll make it to Summit Sierra area. I was talking with the resturant mgr and he said stay out of the McCarren circle. Further out the better. I printed out a map and damn....that circle is huge. Not too much options left. Of course my map is not to scale. Any other thoughts while Im here or am I on the right track? Only have 1 full day to do this.
