We will be moving to Reno next spring and I have spent HOURS looking into apts. just to finally find a place that gives you information about the apartments from tenants who live or have lived there and all my hard work went into the trash. We are trying to find a nice 3 bedroom in a very good neighborhood---safe with good management and so far all I have found is threads on buying homes. I did find a whopping two that had very good reviews---Horizons at South Meadows in Reno and Canyon Vista in Sparks (Spanish Springs.) We want to be in the northwest area, and Spanish Springs sounds very nice. We are comming up to try and find a place so that we will know where we are going when we finally get there. I am from the Central Coast of CA. and know HOT. Been living in Minnesota for the past 13 years and cannot wait to go back west. Cold is 20-30+ degrees below zero alot. Alot of snow that stays on the ground for the entire winter. And summers are miserable because of the very high humidty. I need and want desperately to go back west--just not back to Ca. Can anyone help me out with some really nice apartments for rent--the name of them would be extremely helpful. Any to definietly stay away from, just in case I missed some. We could sure use any and all help we could get from you nice people who really know the area. Thank you.

Hello there! Something interesting we've discovered, concerning this particular area (Reno - Carson City). It's probably not unique to this area that websites devoted to apartment "information" and ratings, are actually run and operated by realtors and/or property owners seeking yet another way to inform people that they have apartments for rent.

Problem being that apparently negative reviews are "mysteriously" deleted or simply not posted. We posted a decidedly negative review of an apartment complex we lived in for awhile in Carson City (and had plenty of knowledge concerning such). After a week, or so, we noticed this review was not published. Checking back again a week later, we discovered that even the name of the apartment complex was no longer listed for reviews!

Coincidence? I doubt it. It's also probably no coincidence that the husband of the woman who owns and operates the management company for this particular complex is a local LAWYER.

It's only a guess, mind you, but it seems quite likely that someone notified this management company of the negative review and, fearing perhaps legal action, decided the best course of action was not post this negative review and even make the link for the complex non-existant for any future comments.

So it's becoming more apparent to us that many of these "review and comment" sites are screening the comments and ratings, or otherwise manipulating the data to support THERE intentions for selling and/or marketing whatever it is they have. Fishing for potential clients, whilst operating under the guise of "ratings and comments".

All you can do is BEWARE of this practice and utilize more than two or three search results to gather whatever information you might be seeking. Common sense, and a healthy dose of awareness are key. Wherever money is involved, there also exists a tendency for deceit and corruption.
