Please help! I am subletting an apt. in TX.

I found the ad on Craigslist and it said "APT for the month of August." In order to sublet, I signed a roommate agreement with the apartment complex.

I had my subletting landlord sign a contract saying the lease would go until Aug 31st. Now my subletting landlord is saying we had a "verbal agreement" that he could come back in 4 days earlier than that. He is saying that he never left the lease, so he's allowed to do that. I think if he comes back in, he should pro-rate it at the very least, or not come at all. He won't.

What can I do?! Please help! This guy still has my huge deposit (1/2 months rent) and I don't trust him...

If you have a signed agreement stating the terms (through August 31st) it doesn't matter what your LL says. I would not move out before the 31st.

And let this bozo know you are serious. Tell him you are contacting an attorney. I might also mention that you "may" stay even longer and that he will have to evict you. That might be enough to put him in his place.

Subletting is when the lease holder rents out ALL or part of the unit. You signed a roommate agreement....so theres his loophole.

Please don’t do or say anything that might be use against you in court, if your case will end up going.
Being calm and collective is a better way to do things. He is obviously a jerk, so stay civilizes and gets advice from free service.
