We're probably moving to Connecticut in January next year.

How does renting work there? If I see a house online & want to view it do I just contact the agent assigned to that property in the ad?
OR
Can any agent take you to any house you want to see, regardless of who's name is on the advertising? If so how do I find them? and what should I know about doing this.. eg fees?

And secondly.. Will any landlord want us when we're a family from another country, own our own home for 15+ years so have no rental history, no credit history in the US (I don't even know if we have such a thing here).. I suppose we can get character references.. Husband has a job in Stamford.

If anyone can point me in the direction of some reading online that'd be great! I want to have a look at a standard lease, if that exists.
Thanks

Google things like (state) standard lease agreement. You are looking for either the realtors association or the apartment association standard lease. There are agents that will show you houses kind of like a buyers agent but you can just contact the agent for a house you wish to see and they will show it. Watch for scams since you aren't from here you are a good target for scammers, not everything is a scam just be cautious.

Perhaps someone in the Human Resouces department of your husband's employer can steer you in the right direction. Is the company providing temporary housing? If so, you should have a local contact who made this arrangement to discuss further issues of matching you with an agent to assist with your search.
