Furnished or unfurnished when renting a flat/house? Isn't getting a furnished one similar to leasing a car, no value cause you don't own it? Explain why you'd pick one or the other. We are a family of four with two small kids.

Again it all depends what you may find.
Unlike in the USA where you have at least a kitchen with everything in it, you may be surprised that some places have a kitchen that is nothing but four walls and a bunch of pipes sticking out of the wall.
It is then up to you to install everything else. Hail to IKEA !!!
Or You may find that the previous tenant wants to sell all of his stuff left in the place, or you may find a completely furnished place, even with a washer and a dryer ...
Since you are four (husband, wife, two small kids) and depending on how long you plan to stay, a two bedroom place would be sufficient.
Many places do not have much storage room, no garage, etc ...
If you happen to come up on some place in a huge building with individual flats/apartments, then make sure about the rules that come with the rental. Some places have a rule where you end up cleaning the stairwell(s) on a regular basis.

By the way ..., it will be no problem to find housing when you have two dogs.
Believe me, it is easier to find housing with dogs compared to finding housing when you have kids !

Where do you find that. In my area there are a lot of restrictions on pets. Unfortunately none on kids.

Nonsense.

As to the topic Q... it's about duration of stay and personal stability.
Short term? Furnished. Unstable? Furnished.
hth
Moving from overseas? Leaving the military? Have been living in housing provided by the employer (often occurs with ministers, for example).

Sure.. those are all legitimate possibles for a family of four.
If they applied here though.. I'd expect them to have been mentioned.
Which gets us to the "short term" tenancies (with furniture).
A couple of months in a new town while you get your job and housing ****e sorted?
You betcha that can make sense.
But for what those 3 months will cost (increment over a longer term lease
and without furniture) should be close to enough to buy a house full of used furniture.
Of course that still assumes they'll qualify with the LL
