I know the obvious like general loudness, moving furniture, vacuuming but I'm not sure about other things like
1- cooking
2- running the dishwasher
3- doing laundry
4- taking a shower
5- moving around in general

I'm not going to lie, all these "my neighbors are awful" threads I've read over the years have me paranoid.

Just imagine your neighbor trying to sleep while you're doing whatever. So, if your dishwasher shares a wall with your neighbor's, and it might be loud enough to disturb their quiet time, run it in the morning. Same for any washing machine or dryer with a shoe clanging around in it.

I think it would be too much to ask to tell someone when they can take a shower, though, let alone move around in your own home late at night.

Just be mindful. I use headphones when I watch movies in the evening, and most of the day even, if I'm listening to music. That way I can crank it up and know I'm not bothering anyone. I'm blessed that there is no apartment below mine (just a maintenance storage room), so I don't have to worry about sounding like an elephant walking around in my apartment.

The list of what's not ok during quiet hours is shorter: No parties, no screaming and yelling like crazy people, no booming bass/music, no loud TVs with sound systems, no sitting on the patio drinking and being loud with your friends.

What you mentioned above is perfectly acceptable during quiet hours, unless your lease or community rules say otherwise

All the things in the OP are perfectly fine during quiet hours. They don't want excessive noise from loud music, power tools, partying, etc...

it means no volume of TV or movies, or music that would disturb the average person, and I don't mean people who like to be overly sensitive. It also can be the time of day that you do things, like - bang nails into the wall with a hammer, you might want to begin that when people reasonably are up for the day like 9:00 or 10:00 a.m. but not 6:00. Or using your power leaf blower not too early when people are sleeping in on Saturday. Or not screaming at any time of day or night.

I thought about this thread some more. Really, you might as well just go about your life normally, and if you get a complaint, then adjust what you do.

It's going to vary by landlord, but I would assume that normal living noise is OK.

It means turn the tv down, use headphones with the stereo, and move your loud party out of your house and down to your favorite bar whenever quiet hours start. No power tools, no hammering, make the kids put the trampoline away until morning. No popping wheeling and blasting your car stereo in the parking lot. Probably spousal abuse has to be postponed until daylight hours.

Unless I received notice otherwise, I would assume it is OK to run the dishwasher and washing machine. Your landlord will let you know if that isn't acceptible

Probably the only things on that list I might check into are the dishwasher and the laundry....some machines may be noisier or vibrate more than others. Maybe ask a neighbor who happens to share the wall with the appliance? If no one does or it doesn't bother them have at it!

Depends on the way the apts are layed out & the Nearby neighbors.

When I lived in the one bedroom apt I got in trouble for vacuuming at midnight... was not planned ... we were doing laundry at the apts laundry room. When I went to strip my bed & pulled off the pillow cases my Feather Pillow Exploded Feathers Everywhere! LL asked what happened I told her, since the guy upstairs was Always complaining & at the same time jumping up/down all hours day or nite she just brushed it off. I learned to change Feather pillow cases during the day

Since we been in the 2 bedroom apt ... the Bedrooms are on out side walls. No one lives over us. The guy next door goes to bed at dark. His bed room is on the outer side of his apt + he has hearing problems. HE Wants us the Vacuum at night so he can enjoy his TV. Dishwasher taking showers at night or evenings. Since we are Night owls works out. IF he moves out might have to change our routine.

So I Suggest You talk to the neighbors see how you can work out doing things. They may be night owls or even work nights. So doing things at night in stead of during the day when they are sleeping might work better for the both of you.

Everything is going fine. The neighbors are actually kinda loud and have a barking dog. It doesn't bother me at all. I'm just going to be respectful but not obsessed.
Like I said, reading years of complaints on here really freaked me out. I haven't had an apartment in 20 years.
