Hi all,

Sorry for another thread, but just want to make sure I have all my bases covered and everything goes smoothly.

So we are signing lease tomorrow evening, and assuming everything with utilities is worked out, we will be handed the keys at that time.

I have gotten a quote for renters insurance, and have a question regarding the procedure.

Basically, do I need to wait until we offficially sign the lease tomorrow evening before purchasing the policy for our new adresss/place? Or could I do it now, even though we haven’t officially signed?

Thanks folks

You can sign now with an effective date starting when your lease starts or you take possession if earlier.

You can do it now. Just don't buy renters insurance from The Hartford. I had a horrible experience with them. Be sure and check your state's insurance commissioner website for which companies are horrible vs good.

And just FYI, from my own experience, if they ever deny a claim you make, take them to small claims court. In my case, they decided to settle with me for the amount they simply should have given me in the first place. So, if they try to deny a claim, file a small claims court action, and they may end up just finally giving you what they should have all along, rather than face court.

You should buy your insurance asap with a coverage start date that matches your lease. Don't allow a gap in coverage...you just never know what could happen.
