Can I find a month-to-month studio apartment? Is this a thing besides subleasing?

Corporate travel apartments? Probably way overpriced?

Airbnb, but it's not really month-to-month unless you reserve each month individually. Same issue with something like Bungalow.

All I can suggest is that you look on Craigslist and the real estate sites and put "month to month" in your parameters. See what you come up with.

You can also run an ad on Craigslist that you are looking for a month to month studio and see how that goes.

Another option is Nextdoor. Ask people in the community if they know of any month to month studio rentals.

Thanks, what about apartment complexes that are marketed towards students? Do some of them offer housing semester-by-semester?

You need to find an old school landlord (NOT NOT NOT a property manager)

There are distinct benefits to a property owner (landlord) to have M2M tenants. Find one.
Next up is the one year lease that rolls over into a M2M tenancy.

You could sign the shortest lease available and be prepared to pay whatever lease break fees are called for. Making sure, of course, you know and completely understand what those are prior to signing the lease.

There are plenty of apartment complexes that offer monthly, 3, or 6 month leases but you are probably going to pay more than a yearly lease. It is super difficult in certain areas, right now, to even find availability because evictions were put on hold again. It may also depend on the city/state you are looking at.

I hope you have good credit because that will make a difference. I just took a short term lease and I swear it seemed worse than when I bought my house. I may be wrong but I'm assuming it's because of all the non paying renters that are screwing their landlords right now.

If you're looking in the "up tp 3 months" range for a short lease - I'd advise hunting from among "Extended Stay" hotels, AIRBNB or VRBO. Most landlords dread vacancy periods, spending time and money cleaning/prepping/advertising again. Even when somebody offers to pay a few hundred a month more for a short-term lease, it may not be appealing enough to the owner.

Thanks, do you have any recommendations for identifying the apartment complexes which offer month-to-month, 3 month, or 6 month leases? I was able to find “short term” on apartments.com, but I’m not sure how reliable that is or where else to look.

I just typed in "short term leases" city/state, I was looking in. Then I chose other filters. It was pretty reliable. The problem was/is availability.

There isn't much right now unless you are just going to vacation here. This is a huge tourist destination and private rentals charge hundreds+ per night. I was even going to stay at an extended stay just to have more time to wait for a larger short term rental but there was nothing available.

If you are going to be going to school, ask them for help finding off campus student housing.
