To move out. Long story short I signed a 6 month lease to rent a room from a woman in December 2015. My lease expires on June 27th of this year.

We talked about a renewing the lease a few weeks ago and she was not comfortable with it. Claimed I was not the same person and she did not feel comfortable having me in her house. Now this is the same woman who said I was part of the family and that she cares about me as a person and blah, blah, blah.

A little about here. 56 years old. Has not worked for 4 years. Somehow conned one of her ex-husbands into paying child support of $1800 a month until their daughter is 21. She gets new grants every year so she can go back to school and "show" she is training for a new major. Changes her major and gets new grants. Great system our government has Training to be a paralegal which will not work out since she cannot use MS Word and does not handle stress well.

She's gambled away the past two rent checks and is two months behind on her mortgage. The HOA is coming after her because she refuses to paint her house because she does not have $2500 and she is behind on her fees. Very stressful situation but she got herself into it. Also had her mother living at the house and was charging her elderly mother $2,000 a month in rent. Was charging her daughter $1600 a month in rent until the daughter lost her job for refusing to take a drug test.

So I see her sliding into depression. Sleeping during the days. Up until 6.00 AM. So last Friday she tells me she cooked some food and said I could eat some. I guess I ate too much so she cooked more and left a note saying I could have a "portion" and that the food was for her and her daughter's diet. No problem.

I send a text apologizing for eating too much food, ask her what it costs and told her I will add it to the next rent check.

She BLOWS up accusing me of being negative and how this is not working out and that she is GIVING ME A WEEK to move out.

Problem is I paid first and last's month so my lease does not end for another 5 weeks. I would gladly move out sooner if she paid me back but she has no money. Literally.

So my question is should I give this woman some time to cool off or let her know I am not leaving until my lease is up. I think she may be having some kind of mental breakdown and don't want to be around when she goes off the deep end. She loves playing the victim.

She can lock the screen door so I cannot get in but what then? Call the cops and show them the lease. She will not answer the door.

I'm not losing money because a grown adult has gotten herself into a deep hole. Of course I am going to move when the lease is up but not sure what I should dot for the next 5 weeks?

All I texted her back was I was not being negative and I was sorry for eating too much and was kindly offering to pay her back. No reply. We live in Florida by the way.

Suggestions?

Youll need to look at your landlord tenant laws. Look over your lease as well for termination clauses.

Then its my understanding most states, she would need to give at least 30 days notice to vacate or start eviction process.

Doesnt matter what she has or hasnt done (as far as her own problems)

She cant just lock you out and say too bad- thats not legal.

The lease ends in 5 weeks and from what I've read a landlord needs to have a good reason to end the lease early and needs to give at least a 30 day written notice.

I've already paid for June so I would offer that she buy me out but she does not have the money. If she had the money I would be out of there ASAP but she would owe me rent for one month and my security deposit.

What she hasn't done put her in a deep depression and she is taking her frustrations out on me. She does the same to her daughter and her daughter who is 19 avoids coming home.

I think she wants me out ASAP so she can move her mother back in and take her social security check every month. Like I said always the victim. Government won't give her free healthcare. HOA is evil. Both of her daughters are addicts and I think she is a nice person but is going insane.

She can lock me out by locking the screen door so what then? Call the police? What a mess.

Should have never sent that text.

Also I've not done anything that she can evict me for. Not one thing. I watch the dogs since she barely gets out of bed. Cleans up their poop because she does not walk then. Make sure they have food and water.

I never have guests over. Contribute to household needs such as paper towels and toilet paper. Even buy her cigarettes when she was and still is broke.

I think she wants her mother in and me out which is fine. Either let me finish my lease or pay me one month's rent and allow me to leave early which she cannot do.

The last two checks she took, cashed late at night and was gone for hours. This is a women who barely gets out of bed. She gambled away the money playing the slot machines and is now in desperation mode.

Told me she would not take a job paying $15.00/hr. Like I said she is mentally breaking down and I don't want to be there when it hits the fan but I am also not going to enable her and not hold up her portion of the lease.

Most of the details you are providing here do not matter. The only thing that matters is that she is attempting to illegally evict you...period. Irrational or not, she has to follow the law in order to evict you or break your lease. You need to read your state's rental laws and/or consult with an attorney or legal source in your area to assist you. No one here can provide legal advice.

I wish you luck! Sounds like a mess for sure.

Her reason is because she said so, she doesnt need a reason valid to you.

I have consulted with legal professionals. Unless he has a good reason for evicting me i.e selling drugs out of the house she cannot say "You have a week".

Like I said I don't care if I stay or go but I am not going to enable her like her family does and allow her to keep my money.

June is paid for. May I owe on the 27th. She also has a security deposit.

Always the victim. She has a really nice home and at times is a nice woman but that text mail yesterday blew me away.

I don't like seeing people get kicked when they are down and out but the HOA and bank are on her ass and I think she is going to sit and let the bank foreclose unless her mother moves in.

Going to bring a copy of the lease home and my last rent check.
