Why don't you look at a used C5 Corvette and then mod the LS1 or even better a C5 Z06 with the LS6 and mod that?
It isn't all about horsepower, curb weight and torque also effects performance. The GTO is a nice car but it weighs something like 3800 lbs while a C5 'Vette will be closer to 3200. Parts are plentiful for the LS engines and you still have an excellent dealer network to get parts. If you bought a used C5 Z06, the LS6 already puts out a tad over 400 hp and you should be easily able to tweak that to reach almost 500 hp. Coupled with a low curb weight, it'll out run most anything.
And why exactly do you want "600" horsepower? That's an arbitrary number, what about 550 horsepower or 650 horsepower? Why not 700 horsepower?
Do you have a certain goal to achieve at a drag strip or something?
I was thinking about getting an 06 Pontiac gto 6.0.
I'm looking for 600 hp from the car.
Can anyone enlighten me on the car.
I've been very happy with my '05, which is the same car. But rather than throw out a bunch of random info to answer "enlighten me on the car", here is all the info you could possibly want:
I owned a 2006 Brazen goat for 2 years, bought it off the showroom floor. Put 31k miles on it before selling it private party. It was a blast. Sure a Corvette is lighter and hadles like rails, but the GTO is a comfty cruiser that can cary 4 people if needed.
ls2gto.com is the best forum. Go on there and look in the for sale section. Buy one already modified for pennies on the dollar. A lot of people on that forum have $15k+ of mods on their cars and can't sell them for more than bluebook.
Major downside is the rear tires. It's very hard to get anything larger than 275 tire back there, which requires cutting.
I spent about $2k in replacing the supension with Pedders (shocks, lowering springs, bushings) and it handled 10x better than stock. The OEM suspension parts are horrible.
With flowmasters and a Superchips tune, my A4 goat did the 1/4 13.01 @ 109mph in Phoenix (2k' elevation) with a 2.0 60' on horrible 235 tires (lots of spinning at the line). Easy 12 second car with some decent tires and a tune. With a ProCharger and supporting mods producing over 600rwhp, GTO's in Denver are doing very low 11 seconds @ 122mph with drags at 5,280'. Easy 10 second car at lower elevation.

Well 600 should be enough for me as a daily. Isn't the gto much cheaper then a C5 zo6?

My friend had the same problem. He said the first thing you have to do is change out the suspension. But he also said with the right suspension components the car could easily do 1g.

I ran 275s on both the stock rims and the 9.5" AZA wheels on it now, with no rubbing. I didn't even roll the fenders.

The shifter is garbage too. I did a B&M Ripshift, but some people like to spend double for a GMM.
Yeah, some 275s run smaller, so just depends on the tires. When your pushing 500rwhp+, you need all you can get.
Looks like the 05-06 goats are holding their value pretty good these days. Can't find one with less than 60k miles for under $15k.
