The image of this man trying to sell trinkets for money for basics... is so terribly poignant.

Today's news in the Washington Post--

One in seven of Americans are living in poverty.

How many are seniors? How many are people who formerly had good jobs?

Our local newspaper ran an article about our survival center with a photo of people who look like they could be college grads going there for food.

I don't know how anyone can deny our current situation.

Ebay worked for me...still does. But , you need to start selling your stuff long before you are too old to do it. I started 10 years ago , and now have finally ran out of stuff, will need to start buying again if I want to continue. I doubt I could have survived very well without Ebay.

Did they define what "poverty" was, i.e., an income level below which is poverty?

Good article, and heart-rending. Thanks for the link. Hardly surprising, however, in light of the economic melt-down of 2008 and the paltry recovery since then. And the bursting of the housing price bubble actually goes back to 2007.

Tonight on the ews the reporter referenced this article and said the poverty # is $22,000 for a family of 4. I wonder what it is for a family of one?

Apparently my single-person household has no possibility of economic problems, as all the talking heads keep referring to "families." If you mean "households," say that, don't blather on about "families" when you mean "people" or "households" or "workers."
Rags me no end.

Your dogs are legitimate members of your household, you are a family
Did you fill in their names on the Census report?
