My wife and I are thinking of retirement in the Tampa area .we will be looking to buy a home in the 250K to 300K area . Does anyone have any thoughts about where in this area to start looking ?

You might get more responses by posting in the appropriate sub-forum of the Florida Forum, as your question has more to do with location-specific housing information than with retirement per se.

I visited a beautiful area north of Tampa -- Trinity -- a 55+ community and loved it. This is where I would have purchased if I'd decided to retire to Florida. It's about a 1/2 hour north of Clearwater Beach.

I vote for Dunedin or Sarasota.

Check out Valencia Lakes, about 20 mins drive south of downtown Tampa. Located midway between Tampa and Sarasota and St Petersburg. Also nearby is Kings Point, a golf community.
