I hope someone gets a chuckle out of this little ditty that popped in my head after looking through these posts.
When I look in the mirror, what do I see,
Acres of wrinkles looking back at me
Eyes that are tired but have seen many things
And ears with tinnitus, oh how they ring
Aches, and pains I have night and day,
In spite of the pills, they won't go away
A body that once was fit for a god,
To me sometimes now feels like a blob,
But, in all of this I somehow find mirth,
For at least I'm still here, alive on this Earth!
Although I'm aware that some men dye their hair, I'm so glad to be a male in that sense; I just don't even remotely consider such a thing and I'm glad not to have the bother. I think women feel a societal pressure to pay more attention to certain aspects of their appearance. Not that I feel free to be a slob, but my hair color will always just be what it is. By the way, the spelling is "au naturel" (with an "e" before the "l"), as the expression is French. For a split second (before I read past the phrase) I thought you were talking about people going naked, as that is one common meaning of "au naturel", so my eyes went to the picture! LOL
Try being unemployed and in your 50's. You would be compelled to color your gray if you knew it would help you secure a job.

Very true. On a related note, back in the early 1980s I worked for a plastic surgeon. I was so surprised when I started there and found out that when it came to facelifts, we had way more male patients than female patients--and it was always about finding a job. Even back then, a lot of men wanted a nip and tuck if they were over 50 and looking for work. The guys were always much more discreet about it than the ladies, however. Every time we'd get a new patient, the first thing they'd ask would be about confidentiality.

Good point about finding a job - I wasn't thinking about that at all, as the last time I was looking for a job I was 26, and that was 43 years ago. One can feel forced into certain things.

Modify the lyrics slightly and it could become a blues song.... "Over the Hill Blues"

Didn't Edna St. Vincent Millay describe herself as "I am the light on the hills, after the sun has set."
Have to look for it.
