I would definitely recommend The Shell Seekers and Winter Solstice by Rosamunde Pilcher. These books both have a feisty and charming elders, along with kin and friends of every age. Her novel, September is awesome as well. They are the kind of books you hate to have end; my mom and I like all her books.
I just finished Voices in Summer by Rosamunde Pilcher and really enjoyed it. I'm so glad that you recommended her! Next up is Winter Solstice
Really glad I found this thread. I'll definitely be giving some of these a read. My daughter bought me a kindle for my birthday and have been looking around for books to download!
I recommend The Beach Club by Elin Hilderbrand. This is the author's first novel, and I found it a very enjoyable read. While the main character, Mark, is 30, the older hotel owners and a very long time guest are also very well fleshed out
I also finished up Winter Solstice by Rosamunde Pilcher which was a great read and thanks for recommending it!

Just started Winter Solstice and loved it from the first page!
I don't think I am ready for those kind of novels yet. My current reads are more or less historical novels. The current book is from the John Jakes series "The Kent Family Chronicles".
I have to recommend Anne Tyler's Digging for America. It's a story about two families who adopt Korean baby girls. One family is American and the other family is Iranian, but both families get together to celebrate the "Arrival Day" annually. Over time, both families become very close friends. Anne Tyler's characters are well fleshed out and her portrayal and inclusion of the grandparents is very well done. I don't want to say too much to spoil the plot
Next up is the recommendation of Anne Brookner's Making Things Better.
Prolific author Anita Brookner, mentioned in this thread a number of times, passed away today at age 87.
She meant so much to so many readers that her name has been trending on Twitter for SEVEN hours so far today.
I wish she could know how much she has meant to so many readers. I think she did know, but the large outpouring of positive sentiment on her behalf is touching, and I wish she could see it.
